Ruapuna was the third and final round of the season after the previous round in Invercargill was cancelled for lack of entries.
My first race in the MX5s was round 1 in Invercargill. I was quickly on the pace and fighting for race wins but couldn’t quite get there.
In round two it was another new track for me as we took the MX5s to Timaru. Ayven joined the field and set a new standard but I still managed to get oh so close to a win.
So heading to Ruapuna, a track I’ve at least driven before even though not raced, and now being comfortable in the car and recognizing the aggression it would take to win, I was ready to give it everything to get ahead of my rival Dean. This was the last chance I was going to send it.
This really was the greatest bunch of people to go racing with. The vibes off track were peak. I’d almost say it was more fun sitting around having a laugh in the pits than the racing. Almost, a race win feels pretty good.
The end of the weekend signaled the end of the championship and overall I finished 2nd!!! Dean a deserving champion, winning in style with the final race win before he hangs up the helmet. But second, that’s awesome. Eevee held on to 3rd overall getting himself in the celebration picture as we parked up the three podium cars and took championship celebration photos.
