Looking to get back racing myself I made it one round before a call for commentators had me back behind the mic.
I volunteered to run a casual stream commentating by myself as an opportunity to learn more about broadcasting iRacing while the series looked for a more complete broadcast option. A Toyota 86 iRacing series the league had attracted a bunch of drivers from the full metal Toyota 86 series here in NZ. A cool opportunity to have some fun with a large grid series while upping my skills.
I ended up commentating the full season myself through a chaotic championship battle. Putting the DSS team in contact with TrackSpot.TV it was excitement for the following season that really kept me going. We managed to put together a deal that TrackSpot.TV would pick up the broadcast of the new season with a full producer and two commentators package, where I was able to continue as one of those commentators. Awesome with TrackSpot on board we could really produce a quality product that stands up much better than my casual solo efforts.
Working with TrackSpot is always a pleasure. George was able to put together a nice graphics package and joined the early rounds as producer. Managing the graphics and camera angles he was able to focus on picking out the important battles and bring up replays. John Wright joined us from the other side of the world as lead commentator bringing his world of experience and Scottish banter to the races. I slotted into colour commentary role bring insights into the drivers and their journeys within the series. Between us we made a great team.
The 8 round series, 1 hour broadcast, fitting in a sprint and feature race, it was always action packed throughout. With grids always bigger than 20 cars and the tight racing that a one make series produces there were different winners every round and always story lines evolving.
Lots of great racing, some very poor efforts too, I had a lot of fun working on this one.
